The Fate of Heroes by ~DevilmanXS:iconDevilmanXS:

Atop the bloody hill the lone warrior stood
His armor in tatters, his sword chipped and on
the verge of breaking.
Blood stained what remained of his armor and sword,
splashes of it had slathered across his face like a wound.
Though he knew he had won the day and his enemies
lay slain at his feet, he knew the hallowness of this victory.
For mingled within the numbers of the dead were what
remained of his allies as well; friends who had known him
and stood with him since he was but a boy,
slaying dragons in his imagination.
How he longed for those friends now, to cheer with him,
to celebrate the victory, but their eyes have grown empty
and their bodies cold, for his friends were gone and he was truly alone.
And their he stood, upon that bloody hill, knowing he had
claimed victory, but the victory felt as hollow as any defeat.
And so his sorrow too him; leaving his broken armor and sword
upon that bloody field, vanishing into the mists of time,
alone and forgotten hero

I could think of a few people I'd like to see beneath that lone warriors feet.....

I always wondered if wars and battles were carried out hand to hand instead of missles and booby trapped roads, where you could actually see your enemie's eyes and feel a sword in your hands running thru someone leaving their entrails lagging behind them....heh, maybe there wouldn't be anymore wars? Nah...
There will always be wars, though the weapons be different.

Very deep.....we need a hero.

Hm..I think part of the reason why men focussed on modern weaponry was so that we wouldn't have to actually look at the faces of our enemies and see the horror and fear in their eyes just before they were cut down, or to walk through the near endless fields of death and pain as the cries of the dying go unanswered. Though those times were far more brutal, they were truer to the nature of war, war is anything but glorific or wonderous, it is hideous, ugly and it makes even the greatest of men little more then animals and in more extreme cases, monsters.
Yes, we do indeed need a hero, but I have yet to see one take up the challenge and just simply do what is right.

Fate can be cruel, but more oftentimes it is kind....you just need the patience to notice the difference.

What gets me too is there are probably so many unsung heroes around us....nurses, medics in general, FIREMEN, cops and our soldiers who aren't only dying for our freedom, but to get the benefits the recruiters "promise" them which is a bunch of crap from what I hear from people who have actually been there. They really go after the minorities and those kids who have no hope with the promise of a life if they're lucky enough to come back alive. Just recently in the news they had a couple homeless men, who were veterans, that died and got full military burial rites. WHY DIDN'T THE GOVERNMENT HELP THEM OUT WHEN THEY WERE ALIVE?
Shit...I think I'm just going to pop in Night of the Living Dead and get drunk.

Hm, this can be a rather depressing subject. But to answer your last question, the subject of money. This government, like all others, care only about just two things, money and how to aquire more, because through money is power and we all know how petty people can be when it comes to having power. And the saddest thing is, many heroes aren't recognized unless they can be used in some fassion by one person or another to gain more power or support. And though how much I /looove/ Night of the Living Dead, I think I'll just help myself to a few pain meds, anti-sinus meds and just pass out for a few hours.

We all know..absolute power corrupts absolutely...or whatever. Um...pain meds combined with anti sinus don't mix well....your better off having a beer and just chillin. LOL
